Dashi stock powder is akin to soup stock cubes in Western cooking. Like soup stock cubes, they are a very convenient way to add a concentrated dose of umami (is the common deliciousness found in savoury foods like fermented soy products, cheese, and shiitake mushrooms. English-language approximations usually refer to a savoury, meaty or “full” taste) to a dish.  It is the instant bouillon of bonito flavor packed that gives each dish its distinct richness. Dashi is commonly made by heating dried bonito (fish) flakes, konbu (kelp), shiitake mushrooms or sardines and draining off the resulting broth. It is used for flavouring dishes such as soups, hotpots, sauces and rice dishes. Keep it simple - as we always try to do - the product comes in an easy-to-mix powdered form and can be used to produce authentic-tasting Japanese cuisine without the effort of making stock from the raw ingredients.
